Full Moon Bodhisattva Ceremony
Meditation instruction, Zazen and Dharma talk by Taigen Dan Leighton
»
This reading group is open to all. We will be reading aloud together the classic expansive and psychedelic Mahayana Buddhist text,
Avatamsaka Sutra (Flower Ornament Sutra)
. A visionary description of awakening realms and bodhisattva activity, the Flower Ornament Sutra has been a cornerstone of Mahayana literature for approximately 2,000 years and is the inspiration for the Huayan school of Buddhism, which in turn had a foundational influence on the formation of Chan (Zen) Buddhism.
Participants are not expected to purchase this text and are welcome to drop in for any reading group gathering. We’ll be reading from temple copies of the Thomas Cleary translation.
Participants will also be invited to sit for optional seated meditation at each gathering.
There is no registration or fee to attend, but donations are welcome.
