Family Law Orientation - Seattle - King County
The FLO provides an overview of the court process for family law cases. This class is required for all unrepresented parties in Dissolution of Marriage, Legal Separation, Relocation, Invalidity and Parenting Plan Modification cases. Attendance is required within 30 days of filing (for the petitioner) or service (for the respondent). See LFLR 20. Cost/Payment The cost for this class is $20.00 plus any applicable fees. The cost can be waived or reduced based on your income. Please see the FAQ section below for fee reduction guidelines.  FAQs What if I need a fee waiver? Please email the class coordinators at FamLawOrientation@kingcounty.gov to obtain a code to register at a reduced or waived cost. Fees are waived per person if your after-tax income is less than 125% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, or you receive TANF or Food Stamps. Fees are reduced to $10.00 per person if your after-tax (net) income is less than $20,000.00 and is above 125% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines (see table below). You must provide proof of your income. Acceptable proof of income includes current Tax Returns; Pay stubs or Unemployment stubs. Fees are reduced to $5.00 per person if you are receiving SSI, SSDI, or other public benefits and your income is above 125% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines (see table below). You must provide proof of your benefits. Acceptable proof of benefits includes current ProviderOne Services card; Proof of state health insurance; SSI or SSDI. What if there is a restraining or protection order between me and the other party?   If there are any orders restricting contact between you and the other party, you cannot attend the same class. If parties register for the same class, the class coordinators will contact the last person to register to reschedule their class.  What if I need an Interpreter? There are no fees for interpreters. Please complete the interpreter section of the registration for to indicate the language needed. Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? You must bring with you some form of identification which will be reviewed at check-in. How can I contact the organizer with any questions? OR via email at: FamLawOrientation@kingcounty.gov What's the refund policy? You can receive a refund until 1 day prior to the class. Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? It is recommended you bring proof of registration with you to the class. Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends? No. The parties must attend this class in person.
