Faculty Biennial Forum Series: A. Rafael Johnson
A. Rafael Johnson (Liberal Arts)
Reading from his novel The Through (Jaded Ibis Press, 2017), finalist for the Minnesota Book Award, Auditorium 140
Johnson states: "What else is there to write about except love? Love glues almost all of my writing together. But I don't restrict myself to one particular flavor of love, the way we see in romance novels or fan fiction. I write about all sorts of love - parental, platonic, toxic, jealous, obsessive. I write about all the ways we avoid love, and the exquisite burden of loving another person. I also tend to write about how love can fracture the soul and heal fissures in the self. Each of the characters in The Through explores at least one form of love and like in real-life, they bear the consequences."
