Armed with a (Paul) Simonesque voice, an acoustic guitar, and a penchant for storytelling, singer-songwriter Chris Slaten (aka “Son of Laughter”) delivers a thoughtful, bright, and theologically robust exploration of redemption and brokenness. Slaten combines verbal virtuosity with ambitious instrumentation: layers of strings and brass and multiple stylistic turns within songs. World Magazine feature of No Story is Over, one of 'four provocative records' of 2018 worth checking out
“I admire Chris Slaten for so many things, not the least of which is his immaculate beard. But I love his music even more. His guitar parts are wonderfully inventive, his Paul Simon-esque voice soars, and his lyrics are as whimsical as they are literate. Any release of a new Son of Laughter record is cause for celebration.”Andrew Peterson Singer-songwriter and author of The Wingfeather Saga
“When we first heard Son of Laughter’s music, an album repeat festival promptly began in our car, lasting for weeks. If you haven’t heard this music, you need to.”Dave Radford of The Gray Havens
“I’m not sure I know a songwriter with greater attention to detail than Chris Slaten, a.k.a. Son of Laughter. The new release is just plain beautiful.”Arthur Alligood, singer-songwriter, national winner of NPR's Mountain Stage NewSong contest
Adam Whipple blends an eclectic, highly literate brand of folk rock with a more traditional Appalachian sound. His music has been described as equal parts Rich Mullins and Garrison Keillor and compared to Andrew Peterson, Paul Simon, and Counting Crows. Having played all over the US and internationally before crowds large and small, Adam still deeply enjoys the familial ethos of house shows, bringing song and poetry to families and their friends in a living room or backyard setting. Hearing Adam’s humorous Southern anecdotes and beguiling poetry and lyrics, audiences take home both memorable melodies and much worth pondering. Adam’s music is about where faith, life, and story meet.
