Feminist.AI at Mutable Studio is pleased to announce Encoding Ourselves, a new project engaging with the research of Professor Safiya Umoja Noble presented in her book Algorithms of Oppression.
Join Feminist.AI along with partner organizations and community members from Women's Center for Creative Work, Supplyframe DesignLab, Queerious, CalArts, CalTech, UCLA, and USC in an effort to envision a more equitable digital world through community-based critical making.
The project commences on February 22nd with a workshop hosted by Mutable Studio in Los Angeles and Queerious Labs in San Francisco. Professor Safiya Umoja Noble and community organizers will describe the core themes of Algorithms of Oppression, investigating the ways in which these systems reflect and reinforce injustice. Following the panel discussion we invite all attendees to brainstorm future projects challenging the impacts of Algorithmic Oppression, Bias, and Data Practices in our communities.
These active research projects will run from Feb 22 through April, culminating in a show in May. We have a few more spaces for community partners, as well as space for participants for the 22nd. If you have any questions, or would like to get involved, reach out to info@mutable.studio
We will update community and academic partners as they confirm!
