FAQ

Where is the event?

It will be held in Long Beach, CA

What is the best airport to use?

The Long Beach Airport (LGB) is the best airport in the country in our opinion. If you're able to fly into it, it is convenient, close and easy.

John Wayne (SNA) in Orange County is close also, only about 20 minutes away.

Los Angeles (LAX) is about a 45min-1 hour drive depending on traffic.

Will I get time with the speakers?

We will eat lunch together on site and the speakers will each do their best to make it around to each of the tables for more informal conversatoins. In addition, attenders will be broken off into smaller groups to spend 45 minutes of conversations and questions with each speaker.

How many people are attending?

While we won't know the exact number until the day of the event, we will keep it at leass than 100 attenders in order to allow for better interaction with our experts

What do you hope happens from this?

Our hope really is just that you would engage this topic well. We don't have a predetermined outcome that we want you to arrive at. Rather, we really do think that the best thing for your church is that you have begun to engage in these important topics well.

Can I get a refund?

Unfortunately we can't offer refunds, but if you're unable to make it after purchasing a ticket, we can offer a credit towards a future Elevating the Conversation Event.

You are also welcome to transfer your ticket to someone else. Contact us at mike@mikegoldsworthy.com if you'd like to transfer your ticket to another person

I already bought a ticket but want to now add an additional team member later, how do I do that?

Elevating The Conversation

Elevating the Conversation are one-day immersive conversations into one specific topic that the church isn’t talking about or isn’t talking about well

Pastors and church leaders get busy, and unfortunately, far too often their education largely stops the day they graduate from school. There are programs to execute, staff to manage, committees to run, hurting people to counsel and sermons to preach. It is hard enough to keep up with the regular week-in-week-out duties of church work, much less to create any space to continue to grow and be challenged intellectually.

Elevating the Conversation events are meant to be a space for church leaders to immerse themselves in one specific topic for one day with recognized experts on that topic.

These are not large gatherings, giving you the opportunity to have some interaction with the experts.

These are designed to be something that can be fit into your schedule and that you can bring team members along with you to have others to process alongside you. (Up to three additional team members can attend for a discounted rate of $125 each)

The goal is not to get you to think a certain way, but instead to give you the space, tools and resources to think well about that specific topic for yourself

Join Matthew Vines, Caleb Kaltenbach and Michael Hidalgo to fully immerse yourself for one day in a conversation to help us think about how we better engage with LGBTQ Christians and our churches.

Our Speakers

Caleb Kaltenbach is a pastor and founder of The Messy Grace Group where he helps churches love and foster community with LGBTQ individuals without sacrificing theological convictions. He is the author of Messy Grace: How a Pastor with Gay Parents Learned to Love Others Without Sacrificing Conviction, where he discusses being raised in the LGBTQ community, following Jesus, and how loving others doesn’t require shifting beliefs.

Matthew Vines is the founder and executive director of The Reformation Project and the author of God and the Gay Christian: The Biblical Case in Support of Same-Sex Relationships. The Reformation Project, is a non-profit organization dedicated to training LGBTQ Christians and allies to reform church teaching on sexual orientation and gender identity. Matthew works with church leaders across the country who desire to help make their churches more affirming towards the LGBTQ community.

Michael Hidalgo is the pastor of Denver Community Church, a multisite holistic, missional Christian community. Michael and DCC made headlines in late 2016, when they announced after a period of study and discernment that while the elders could not reach full agreement regarding LGBTQ inclusion in the church, they decided to seek unity rather than uniformity, becoming a church that adopted the full inclusion of LGBTQ people in the church while also also actively having leaders and elders who are non-affirming in their theological position. At 1,500 weekend attenders, DCC is one of the larger churches to have moved in this direction.
