3 Continuing Education Credits 

This three hour comprehensive training is designed to explore the definition, dynamics and impact of violence specific to people with various disabilities including people who are deaf or hard of hearing with regard to their personal, occupational and treatment goals.  Identification of community resources and the barriers people with disabilities often encounter when accessing these resources.  Finally an interactive discussion will identify ways to understand, treat and mitigate the impact violence and trauma have on the person and on their support network, the community, first responders and providers.   

Presenter: 

Victoria Markouizos, a marriage and family therapist has spent over 10 years in the Westchester Community working with trauma survivors, educated and trained professionals on victimology and trauma.  Her dedication to crime victims and survivors of sexual assault provides her with vast knowledge regarding the effects and after math of crime on individualsRebecka Palmer has thirteen years of experience working with crime victims from various backgrounds in Westchester County.  As an advocate, counselor, and facilitator she had dedicated her professional career challenging systems and collaborating with the community. Having spent the last four years working on Westchester Safe Access, she was able to focus on issues specific to people with disabilities. Ms. Palmer is now the Peer Integration Coordinator for Westchester Independent Living Center.
