We are Detroit Speaseasy Tours (check out our Facebook page @
and we are thrilled to be apart of such a beautiful city. For those of you that don't know what a "Speakeasy" is it was created back in the time of prohibition which made the sale of alcohol Illegal. Yes you read that correctly, you could not purchase alcohol.
Businessmen then opened secret bars/ lounges that were often disguised extremely well and were near impossible to find. People learned of these establishments by word of mouth forming the term speakeasy. Often hidden in the basement of deli or the back room of a repair shop these Speakeasies would be packed with patrons who just wanted to have a drink and a good time. There was often live jazz music and dancing, burlesque was very popular among this time as well.
Here at Detroit speakeasy tours we have found Detroits most secret bars that date back to the prohibition era. Just think how many bootleggers traveled back and forth to Canada to supply Americans with Alcohol. We have created an unbelievable tour that will teach you about Detroits underground as well as show you a great time that you'll be talking about for weeks after!
