Determining Household Income and 2018 Tax Law Changes

Are you a new MNsure Navigator? Are you an experienced MNsure Navigator/CAC looking to brush up on your skills? Are you prepared to read the new 2018 tax forms when assisting applicants?

Join us for this morning training session!

Income has a huge impact on what health care program an individual will be eligible for and proper income reporting is necessary in order to receive the appropriate eligibility determination.

This training session will:

• Explore what counts as income when determining eligibility for Medical Assistance, MinnesotaCare and Advanced Premium Tax Credits (APTCs).

• Walk through real-life examples that reflect the complex income situations many consumers have, such as self-employment income, multiple sources of income, unpredictable income and Social Security income.

• Highlight how changes to the 2018 tax law impact MNsure application assistance.

• Show how to properly enter income information on the MNsure application.

• Offer 1.5 continuing education units for The MN Board of Social Work.

Guides and Tools: Attendees will receive reference sheets on income types and taxable deductions that can be used when assisting clients along with a 2018 Tax Changes guide highlighting the recent tax changes that impact MNsure assisters' work. Participants will also gain access to Assister Connect, Portico’s moderated forum for assisters to share questions, experiences, and best practices.

Registration and check-in will begin at 8:30. Program will begin promptly at 9:00.
