Denver Winter Ralleye #3: LE TOUR DE SUPERFUND

An interpretive ride featuring 75 miles of Denver history, and some surprises thrown in along the way.

The intent of this ride is to bring awareness of the risks of environmental recklessness through visitation of a few representational enviro-tragedies around Denver (past, present, and future) – some of which were so large, toxic, and egregiously managed before abandonment/bankruptcy that they were given US EPA Superfund status! Some would say that the theme of this ride is rather cynical – but we say the topic is very important and largely ignored. Some would say the theme of this ride is dark – but we point out how sunny Colorado is most of the time.

Join us for the third - and possibly most important - installment of the '19/20 Denver Winter Ralleye series. This route will take us up through Globeville and Broomfield for a dirt/gravel reward at the ironically-named Rocky Flats "Wildlife Refuge" before turning back South to Golden and Dinosaur Ridge. To prime the pump for the interpretive/educational nature of this outing, the ride will commence with a poetry reading as well as a possible surprise guest who can shed light on one of the largest Superfund investigations in U.S. history.

Typically leaving from Denver, these are social rides with an emphasis on fun, adventure, and exploring rarely-traveled areas of the Front Range with some historical reference to supplement the experience. Routes will consist of a fair amount of pavement as well as dirt, gravel, and in some cases snow & ice (a.k.a. Snice); skinny road tires are not recommended.

YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE: This is a participant-led event; there is no support provided. Bring your own fuel/hydration and tools/ability to fix any mechanicals. These are "no-drop" rides, but natural separation will occur between regrouping points. It is highly recommended to bring a GPS/map and be able to find your own way in the event that you get separated from the group or need to depart early.
