Step Afrika! blends percussive dance styles with traditional African dance, while integrating songs, storytelling, and humor into each performance. Drumfolk is inspired by the Stono Rebellion of 1739, a little-known event in American history that transformed African experience in America. This program will include excerpts from Drumfolk, including Step Afrika!’s award-winning lecture-demonstration on the African-American percussive dance style of stepping.
