San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band’s Holiday Classic Journeys to a World of Magic!

San Francisco’s celebrated, off-beat holiday favorite is back with some magic. The 2018 Dance-Along Nutcracker® takes audiences on a journey to Fogwarts School for the Magically Oriented with Clara and Fritz as they search for Jon Sims’ legendary elder baton.

Each year, the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band selects a theme to blend with Tchaikovsky’s classic “Nutcracker Suite.” The result? A fun-filled musical production brimming with wit, artistry, and ingenuity.  The talented cast sing and dance their way through a parody version of the Nutcracker. And when the “Dance-Along” sign flashes, the audience is invited to tug on their tutus and pirouette along with the cast. Even the muggles who don’t want to dance have a blast. This year’s show features musical numbers from Moana, Hairspray, West Side Story, and more!

The San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band (SFLGFB) was founded in 1978 by Jon Sims at the height of Anita Bryant’s anti-gay crusade. As the first openly gay music organization in the world, SFLGFB has inspired the formation of lesbian and gay bands, choruses, and performing troupes world-wide. Named the “Official Band of San Francisco,” SFLGFB has promoted visibility and built understanding between gay and non-gay communities through public musical performances.
