Creativity in the Workplace

This course is for City of Baltimore employees only. 

Everyone has the potential to be creative, but some may need to work harder to overcome their personal barriers to creativity. In the work environment, certain conditions, such as open communication are critical for team creativity. Team leaders can better facilitate and coax creative contributions from team members by using the right tools. Once thoughts are flowing freely and you have a good set of ideas, you need to check which are workable and worth refining for implementation. This path covers the personal barriers to creativity and offers individuals strategies for overcoming them. It also outlines the conditions for creativity to flourish in the workplace. Team leaders are provided with techniques, such as brainstorming and role playing, which facilitate and encourage creative interactions and ideas. In addition, it describes methods for building on ideas and verifying their workability within the context of an organization.
