SiTE:LAB is an all-volunteer, artist-led intiative that temporarily takes over abandoned spaces to create site specific exhibitions and is an ArtPrize Satellite Venue. Note: there is no running water at this venue. Buses are welcome to park on site and the building will close after your tour ends.
How do life experiences influence the way you relate to art? How does learning about art impact how we perceive the world? What can we learn from our responses to art?
This is a two-part experience with a workshop followed by an optional guided tour. With educators as guides, students will reflect on two SiTE:LAB pieces and then engage in discussions focused on how the method of display, location, and experience of an artwork influences how it is perceived and valued. Students will write their own place-based personal narratives guided by a mini-workshop that will illuminate the elements of narrative, giving particular emphasis to place and its impact on the artist. Student stories may be printed and displayed as part of the Creative Youth Center's ArtPrize entry. After the program, we invite you to join a SiTE:LAB curator on an optional guided tour of the space.
How might written narrative be reimagined as visual art? Does place play the same role in this new, more visual version? After creating our own place-based narrative, has your perception/understanding of the SiTE:LAB artwork changed?
