Creative Writing Circle-8 Weeks
Description: In this workshop, writers will craft original work using creative methods to get their writing on the page. This is a generative class that supports writers as they discover and explore their individual voices. We will also examine the works of other writers as a springboard to discuss creative writing techniques. The workshop is open to poets, fiction and non-fiction writers interested in creating within a supportive and non-competitive workshop environment. Community members provide their own writing journals or writing device. Space is limited to 12 people, and dinner will be provided at the start of each workshop. Workshop fee also includes a 20 page manuscript consultation, and 15% writing residency discount.
Details: The 8 week writing circle will meet Wednesdays from 3/4/20-4/22/20 from 6pm-8:30pm, culminating in a public reading on the last day.
Dates: March 4, March 11, March 18, March 25, April 1, April 8, April 15, April 22
Method: The workshop will be facilitated using the Amherst Writers and Artists (AWA) Method, which is guided by five affirmations.
THE FIVE ESSENTIAL AFFIRMATIONS
-Everyone has a strong, unique voice.
-Everyone is born with creative genius.
-Writing as an art form belongs to all people, regardless of economic class or educational level.
-The teaching of craft can be done without damage to a writer's original voice or artistic self-esteem.
-A writer is someone who writes.
