Marina Young received her musical education at the Gnessin Institute in Moscow, Russia (then USSR). After graduation, she taught piano at the world-renowned Gnessin School of Music for the Gifted, a school of which many graduates (including some of Ms. Young’s students) went on to become noted musicians and winners of major international competitions. At the same time, Ms. Young continued to perform solo and chamber music and lectured regularly on pedagogy, technique, pedaling, and other subjects. In 1980, Marina Young emigrated to the United States. The same year, she began teaching at the Hebrew Arts School (now the Lucy Moses School) in Manhattan. In 1983, she joined the faculty of the Mason Gross School of Arts at Rutgers University, where she mostly taught graduate and doctoral students. Several of her students became winners at various competitions. Ms. Young has also regularly given solo recitals at several colleges and in other venues, and has performed as a soloist with the New Jersey State Orchestra and Monmouth Symphony Orchestra. Her activities have also included several lectures on tone quality and technique, as well as master classes and judging several piano competitions. She has received many awards for teaching excellence.
