City of Fort Worth Juneteenth Celebration

City of Fort Worth employees are invited to attend two events celebrating the historical and cultural significance of Juneteenth.

Celebrating Freedom through Rhythm and Movement: A Historical Anthology of African American Dance

This outdoor dance program will take place from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, June 15 in the north plaza of City Hall, 200 Texas St. Local dance groups will perform the juba, lindy-hop, swing, tap, salsa and step. Employees are invited to bring their lunch, or visit one of the food trucks and tent that will be available from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Wessyngton Plantation: A Family’s Road to Freedom

This 29-minute film will be screened from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 19 in the City Hall Council Chamber. It is based on the book, The Washingtons of Wessyngton Plantation, that was the culmination of 30 years of research, with author John F. Baker Jr. detailing the lives of multiple generations of his family members who labored at Wessyngton Plantation.

Employees are invited to bring their lunch. Popcorn and soft drinks will be provided.

These programs are made possible through a collaboration between the Juneteenth Employee Committee and the Human Relations Commission’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
