This training session is open to all unregulated and licensed childcare providers in the state of Tennessee. This training session is broken into four workshops. Attendess will the potnetial to earn up to 4 credit hours for attending.

Maintaining Fire Code Compliance Using a Day to Day Strategy

Emergency Preparedness
Presenter: Angela Allred

Workshop Description: A disaster in your community does not have to mean a disaster for you, your staff or the children you care for as long as you have a plan and that plan is practiced. In this workshop, we will cover the potential hazards that could occur and steps to prepare your facility and staff to ensure everyone is confident and calm during a crisis.

Speaker Bio: Angela Allred has over 10 years of experience educating on a local, state and national level to diverse audience. She currently works in the Emergency Preparedness division at the Knox County Health Department.

Introduction to ACEs for Early Childhood Professionals
Presenter: Kindal Akers
Organization: Harmony Family Center

Workshop Description: Thanks to decades of neuroscience research on brain development, adversity and toxic stress, we now understand how and why children exposed to violence, neglect or trauma early in life often cope with behavioral, mental and physical health problems later in life. This workshop explores the findings and implications of the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) study, how brains are built and the critical importance of high quality early child care.


 

Maintain Fire Code Compliance Using a Day to Day Strategy
Presenter: Colin Cumesty

Workshop Description: Passing an annual fire code inspection is critical to maintain your licensed status. This process can be daunting, but by employing a simple daily checklist of items focused on fire and life safety, you can stay compliant. e64cx7

Speaker Bio: Colin Cumesty is a 20 year veteran of the Rural Metro Fire Department in Knox County (TN). From 2009 to 2019 he was assigned to the Town of Farragut Fire Prevention Office where he was responsible for Fire Code compliance in new and existing construction. Part of his duties included Code compliance inspections for licensed childcare providers within the jurisdiction of the Office. Colin has been a State of Tennessee as well as International Code Council certified Fire Inspector since 2009. Currently and since 2010, Colin is assigned to the Knox County (TN) Fire Bureau as a Fire and Life Safety Educator responsible to the Knox County Fire Marshal. Colin routinely develops and delivers public education programs with the goal of reducing injuries and loss of life from fire and life safety emergencies. Colin also serves as a Fire Investigator with the Knox County Fire Investigation Task Force since 2012. Since 2009, Colin has had many opportunities to speak to concerned groups on fire and life safety topics. On three occasions he has been invited to speak during in-service training for a west Knox County childcare business as well as professional groups representing license childcare programs.


 

ODBCACFP sponsored providers are required to attend at-least one training session annually. You may bring up-to (4) members of your child care staff , including yourself.

*All attendees will receive a certificate with credited training hours. Licensed or unregulated childcare homes, centers and after-school facilities are all encouraged to attend.
