Charles Dickens (1812-1870) was one of the most successful writers of the nineteenth century, achieving international fame during his own lifetime.

The Rare Book Department at the Free Library of Philadelphia is home to one of the finest Dickens collections in the world, containing manuscripts, original illustrations, autograph letters, and other objects.

Join us for a look at the stories and the storyteller whose popularity has endured for nearly two centuries

Take history in the palm of your hand: turn pages, hold manuscripts, and handle artifacts with the Hands-on History series from the Free Library's Special Collections. Curiosity seekers of all ages are welcome! Registration is free, but required.
