Law School for the CFO was a member-designed program to help financial executives deal with the complex legal issues they face in their roles.  Many CFOs function as de facto in-house counsels, and find the role overwhelming.  We are fortunate to have one of the premiere law firms, Winthrop & Weinstine, to provide an overview of the challenges you face on a daily basis.
Topics to be covered include:

  • E-Discovery including litigation hold, data collection, data review and preparing for legal disputes
  • Data privacy and cyber security: trends in business, regulation and litigation
  • Employment Issues of E-Discovery
  • #MeToo - One year later

Speakers

John Sellner, In-house E-Discovery Counsel
Mr Sellner assists clients with implementing data retention policies that strike a balance between the risk inherent in preserving historical documents and electronic data, regulatory compliance, the cost of data storage, and any other considerations that are particular to them. To the extent clients become involved in legal disputes, Mr Sellner ensures that all document collection and processing is legally defensible, that our production and review protocols are customized to provide the most expedient and cost-conscious discovery process possible, and that we are compliant with local, federal, and international discovery and privacy rules.

Nadeem Schwen, Attorney
Mr Schwen uses a practical, business driven approach to advise and assist in implementing comprehensive data privacy and security compliance. Mr Schwen guides clients through the most current data privacy legislation and regulations, including global privacy regimes such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). He also currently serves as Data Protection Officer for a number of technology and big data companies. His technical background enables him to effectively assist clients with a wide range of data privacy, cybersecurity, and technology law issues.

Mark Pihart, Attorney
Mr Pihart advises and represents a variety of clients on matters regarding employment discrimination, employment laws and regulations. He has extensive experience in representing and counseling clients on a wide range of employment related issues, including the hiring process, employment agreements, discrimination issues, leave of absence issues, wage and hour issues, noncompetition covenants, trade secret issues, use of social media in the workplace, breach of contract claims and the termination process, including unemployment claims and compliance with state and federal employment laws. Mr Pihart also frequently trains Human Resources professionals, managers and employees around the country on a host of employment-related topics.
