Career Connections Conference 2020
Join the Louisiana Career Development Association for the annual Career Connections Conference.
Our conference speakers will be NCDA President-Elect Seth Hayden and LCDA President-Elect Christopher Belser.
Session One: Connecting the Dots: Addressing Career Development and Mental Health in Practice
Dr. Seth C.W. Hayden is an assistant professor of counseling at Wake Forest University and has provided career and personal counseling in community agencies, secondary school, and university settings. His research focuses on the career and personal development of military service members, veterans, and their families. In addition, he explores the connection between career and mental health issues and integrated models of clinical supervision designed to facilitate positive growth in counselors’ ability to formulate interventions. Dr. Hayden is a licensed professional counselor in North Carolina and Virginia, a national certified counselor, a certified clinical mental health counselor, and an approved clinical supervisor. Dr. Hayden is a past-president of the Military and Government Counseling Association and currently serves as President-elect of the National Career Development Association.
Session Two: Building Bridges: Strategies for Identifying and Developing Partnerships within Career Development Work
Dr. Christopher Belser is an Assistant Professor in the Counselor Education Program at the University of New Orleans. He earned his Ph.D. in Counselor Education & Supervision at the University of Central Florida and his M.Ed. in School Counseling at Louisiana State University. His research interests include P-16 career development initiatives in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and school counselor preparation. Dr. Belser has experience in Louisiana public and charter schools as a middle school counselor and as a high school career coach. Dr. Belser coordinates a multidisciplinary research team within an NSF-funded undergraduate STEM recruitment and retention program and has also taught a STEM-focused undergraduate career planning course. Dr. Belser has presented at local, state, national, and international conferences and is an active participant in various counseling-related organizations. He is the President-elect of the Louisiana Career Development Association.
These two sessions have been approved by the Louisiana Counseling Association and the National Board for Certified Counselors for a combined 6.0 CEU hours.
Do I have to be a member of LCDA to attend this event?
Membership in LCDA is not a requirement to attend this event. This event is appropriate for any individual who works in workforce, school, private practice, or college settings and who provides career counseling, career coaching and job readiness support to clients.
