CANCELLED - John Malkovich in 'The Giacomo Variations'

CANCELLED - John Malkovich in 'The Giacomo Variations'
Event ended

In his previous Berkeley performance, revered actor John Malkovich took to the stage as a killer; this season, he is back as a lover, possibly the most notorious lover of all time. For The Giacomo Variations, Malkovich portrays the 18th-century scoundrel and seducer Giacomo Casanova, in his second project with Austrian director Michael Sturminger, following the success of their collaboration The Infernal Comedy. Part play, part chamber opera, the story is by turns humorous, haunting, and erotic, as our hero reflects on his conquests and exploits in the face of his own mortality. Music is provided by Casanova's luminary contemporaries, including arias from the three great operas Mozart wrote with librettist Lorenzo Da Ponte—The Marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni, and Così fan tutte—and performed by the celebrated Orchester Wiener Akademie with vocal soloists.
