Known for an innovative approach to music inspired by ancient cultures, the GRAMMY® Award-winning Mexican-American singer/songwriter Lila Downs will headline this two-day extravaganza that invites you to celebrate death as a natural phase in life’s continuum and honor the traditions of Mexican and native Mesoamerican cultures. Joining Lila on stage for Calavera will be Grandeza Mexicana Folk Ballet Company, one of the premier folklorico dance companies in Los Angeles, and Mariachi Femenil Flores Mexicana. From her Mixtec Indian heritage to her fusion of international sounds and musical genres, Lila will display her ability to meld reinterpretations of blues, jazz and soul to cumbia, rock, even rap and klezmer with traditional Mexican and native Mesoamerican music, singing in Spanish, English, and sometimes even the languages of the Mixtec, Zapotec, Maya and Nahuatl cultures.
Complementing this event will be two days of FREE Dia de los Muertos activities for the whole family. Go here to learn more.
