Led by Sasha Hodder, MBA, Esq. Partner, DLT Law, P.A, a practicing attorney specializing in blockchain, cryptocurrency and the Fintech sector, the course provides participants with the competencies needed to serve clients who are interested in using blockchain technology to deliver services that are faster, more secure, and often eliminate the need for "trusted" third parties.

  • Which states require a money transmission license for virtual currency?

At the conclusion of this series of courses, participants should be able to:

  • Describe blockchain technology and the applications to law and business practices

  • Discuss fundraising and legal strategies for doing an initial coin offering (ICO)

  • Identify Fincen’s regulations around money transmission and how they apply to each type of project and state regulations

  • Contrast American regulations with those of Europe, China, India, Canada and Venezuela

  • Review American taxation and tax treatment of forks and airdrops

  • Offer advice to individuals and businesses on what can be done to minimize their tax burdens

  • Consider the challenges of putting physical goods on the blockchain, including some prominent case examples

  • Assist clients with cryptocurrency assets in estate planning and wills

  • Summarize the more innovative laws on blockchain technology in the US

  • Explain some of the many blockchain-related patents

  • Interpret what each regulatory body should do moving forward, to achieve their own agendas while continuing to foster innovation


PREREQUISITES

No prior experience with blockchains, cryptocurrencies, or financial technology law is required; the only prerequisite is an interest in the subject matter and a willingness to learn.


CREDIT DESIGNATION

The Florida Bar has certified this course for 9.5 continuing legal education (CLE) credit hours. You must complete all 4 modules to receive the full credits. However, you may take modules separately for limited credits.

RECIPROCITY

States that offer CLE reciprocity include Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Maine, Montana, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Washington, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Note: some states do not give reciprocity for taking online classes.
