Bending Skills and Noble Fills

In this 8-week introductory workshop, students are encouraged to explore the brilliant and sculptural potentials of neon! The first four weeks of class will be split between demonstrations given by the instructor and guided personal exploration. Demonstrations will include: the fundamental techniques required to bend and weld hot glass tubing, tips and tricks on how to make a bending pattern, indoor installation, and the process of how a glass tube becomes activated with a noble gas. For the remaining half of the class, students will create their own design on a pattern or continue to playfully experiment with the material. This course is geared towards the beginner, but can be utilized by an intermediate as a platform for troubleshooting a project or refreshing one’s skills. Open to all skill levels.
