Expansion of legal gambling has been a hot and contentious topic this year in the Georgia General Assembly with state legislators coming down on both sides of the issue. Proponents of expansion argue it will bring new jobs to Georgia and help compensate for falling state tax revenues. Opponents question revenue projections and say legalized gambling could also bring increased crime.
Currently the state's only legal gambling is the Georgia Lottery. But a Senate study committee lead by State Senator Brandon Beach has examined legalization of horse racing, sports betting, and casino gaming. Ultimately any expansion would have to be approved by the voters of Georgia with a constitutional amendment.
Join AYR for an Oxford-style debate over expansion of gambling in Georgia. Senator Beach and special guest TBA will speak in favor of expansion. They will face off against State Senator Bruce Thompson and partner Cole Muzio from the Family Policy Alliance which opposes expansion. You won't want to miss the debate of the year!
This event is free to attend but we ask that attendees RSVP via Eventbrite.
