Ana Teresa Fernández creates social gestures that she translates into masterful oil paintings, installations, and videos. Her performances become tools for investigating the psychological and physical barriers that define gender, race, and class. Most recently, she filmed a performance off the coast of Greece in order to call attention to the migrant and refugee crisis in the Mediterranean Sea.
A long-standing partnership with UNCG’s School of Art and the Weatherspoon Art Museum, the Falk Visiting Artist program brings nationally and internationally recognized artists to Greensboro. While here, they work closely with students and off er a public presentation on their work. This spring’s Falk Artists work at the intersection of art and activism on the US/Mexico border. Using a range of media—from digital technologies to traditional oil painting—they draw attention to the lived experiences of immigrant populations.
