SOTX: Greater Dallas - Area 10
2018 Basketball Tournament & Skills Competition
The event will be held at various gyms throughout Grand Prairie ISD. There will be over over 100 teams competiting in the Basketball Tournament and approximately 200 athletes competing in the Individual Skills Competition. Volunteers are needed for refereeing, timing, scorekeeping, other general event support and assistance, and Fans!
Gym assignments will be communicated by February 20, 2018.
Volunteer Shift Times
Friday (February 23)
Support Services/ Setup: 2:00pm - 5:00pm
Saturday (February 24)
Shift 1: 7:30am - 11:30am
Shift 2: 12:00pm -3:30pm
Shift 3: 3:30pm -7:00pm
Individual Skills: 8:00am - 11:30am / 12:30pm - 3:30pm
Awards Support: 11:00pm -3:30pm / 3:30pm - 7:30pm
Athlete Village: 12:00pm - 3:30pm
DESCRIPTION OF ROLES
(In order of Greatest Need)
- Referee:help officiate the basketball games. Non certified officials will be assigned to gyms with similar skill play to little dribblers or junior high. Requirements Varsity Level player or adult with knowledge of basketball. Once you register we will contact you directly to sign up for your choice of game assignments.
- First Aid Support: we cannot offer our tournament without proper medical coverage. We need at least 1 first aid and CPR certified volunteer in each gym. If interested, register and then we will work with you to schedule a time and venue.

GYM Support: Include Scorekeeping, bookkeeping, and being fans!
- Opening Ceremonies: Assist with crowd control, set up, checkin and flow during Opening Ceremonies
- Individual Skills: assist with the Individual Skills Competitions (these are the athletes that don't play team basketball)
- Athlete Village: have fun and entertain athlete with games and activites when they lounge in between games (specifically looking for a group to take this on)
- Souvenirs: Assist development team with souvenir sales
- Media Team: take photos, capture videos and interviews from our athletes
IDEAL GROUP OPPORTUNITIES

- Athlete Village: have fun and entertain athlete with games and activites when they lounge in between games (specifically looking for a group to take this on)
Registration Instructions
1) Select a desireable ticket item (volunteer role / shift time)
2) If with a group be sure to identify or sign up all together
3) Individuals / Groups will be contacted directly regarding their assignment and venue locations in which they will directly report to.
We ask that volunteers be flexible with the roles they are assigned.
Roles are designated and fulfilled based on immediate need.
Food is not provided for day of event volunteers but only for all day volunteers. Please be prepared to bring your own food, purchase food from concession, or designate someone to bring you food.
VOLUNTEER SERVICE HOURS:
For those needing confirmation of service hours, at the completion of your volunteer shift you may report back to volunteer registration for signatures or confirmation forms.
WHAT TO WEAR / BRING:
- Wear comfortable clothes
- Closed toed shoes (no flip-flops)
- Water bottle to stay hydrated
- Money for souvenirs or concessions stands
- Photo ID
WHERE TO GO:
- We are at multiple campuses in Grand Prairie ISD
- We will contact all thsoe registered and give them directions and specific venue and person to report to.
- If you do not recieve an email with an gym assignment please report to Grand Prairie High School.
- Communication will be sent out to you 1 week in advance about the venue, address, and more details on where to go and what to expect.
