From Business Analyst to Business Accelerator

Business analysis, as a career, is unique in that it can be challenging to define a set of specific skills and capabilities required to be successful. There are IT-oriented BAs who focus on technical content, ensuring they are always ready to discuss cutting edge technologies in the ever-changing industry. Other BAs are more business-oriented and focus on specific functional areas such as HR and Finance. Then there are the rest of us – hybrids that span both the IT and Business sectors along with one or more industries to ensure that success is the final destination for our projects.

As a BA with over 20 years of practical software development experience across many disparate industries, Tami Cole has gained many unique skills and experiences that have led to her greatest career challenge to date – owning and leading Documentation Strategies, Inc., an IT consulting and training organization.

In this presentation, Tami will share with you the many business analyst traits and skills she leans on every day to support the growth of her clients, her team, and her organization.

Learning Objectives:

  • Gain a better appreciation of the skills BAs have.

  • Realize how they can be utilized beyond basic project work.

  • Realize just how far they can take you.

Speaker: Tami M. Cole

As President and CEO of Documentation Strategies, Inc. (Docstrats), Tami has engaged new clients and staff, resulting in an 8% growth in revenue in her inaugural year, followed by double-digit growth in 2016. Running a small business gives Tami the opportunity to utilize the many skill sets she has acquired. She loves learning and is always looking to stretch beyond her comfort zone.
Tami’s background includes nearly twenty years in designing and implementing business applications, working for two of the Capital Region’s well-known consulting companies: CGI (previously Deloitte Consulting/DRT Systems), on her own as an independent consultant and with PwC.

She has worked in every facet of business application development, from analyzing and documenting business’ needs to coding and testing, to writing user guides and training employees on using applications effectively. Her passion for IT Business Analysis propelled her into project management, where she became a Certified ScrumMaster.
Her extensive portfolio includes designing coding and compliance software used in hospitals nationwide and working on projects with teams from all over the world.
