Winter camping on the Appalachian Trail is a magical experience. Crisp air no crowds and breathtaking vistas make winter backpacking a must for any backcountry adventurer. Our route traverses 8 miles round trip along North America\'s most iconic long distance trail. Enjoy lookouts at Annapolis Rock and Black Rock Cliff during the day with a warm campfire in the evening. Along the way you\'ll learn how to adapt your 3 season backpacking experience to manage the cold and enjoy the beauty that winter travel has to offer. This 2 day course covers: what to bring cooking and hydration strategies navigation and camp skills how to stay warm and much more. Price includes all meals use of tent sleeping bag sleeping pad stove/cook set round-trip transportation park entry fee and pre-trip information meeting. Due to the nature of winter conditions this course is more strenuous than a typical overnight backpacking outing. We may encounter snow ice wind or rain. This course is designed to help you learn how to prepare for these situations so you can enjoy the winter outdoors.
