Title: Using Analytics to Stay Ahead of the Competition
Session Description:
As product strategists aiming to launch a new product or gain market share with a new product enhancement, it is often critical to be first to the finish line. The risk of losing the race can be in the millions and devastating to careers. In this session, we’ll discuss some analytical models for using knowledge of your external environment to understand where you are in the race with your competition, and how to think about bets and moves you can make to stay ahead. We’ll apply some use cases to demonstrate how organizations apply data and analytics to continuously monitor competitive development and engage in interactive dialog on how to use that information to respond to threats and opportunities.

Steve founded Line of Sight in 2002 with a vision to help his clients focus, protect and grow their businesses by making strategic decisions that provide unique and better value than their competition. Previously, he led similar research and strategy efforts within corporate organizations. First at Deluxe Corporation, then at Jostens Inc. and finally at Optum, a unit of UnitedHealth Group, where he was Director of Market Research and Intelligence.
The perspective and skills gained from having been ‘in the trenches’ as a practitioner has proven invaluable for Line of Sight’s clients. They realize the ability to integrate critical strategic information directly into their strategic decision making processes for better results.
Steve has an MBA in Marketing a BS degree in Finance. He has published various articles in strategy and competitive intelligence and has presented various topics at conferences and workshops for Strategy and Competitive Intelligence Professionals (SCIP), the American Marketing Association (AMA), the Special Libraries Association (SLA) and PDMA.
Steve has also been an instructor at St. Catherine University in St. Paul MN where he teaches classes in Management and in Competitive Intelligence, and is a regular guest lecturer for MBA strategy courses at St. Thomas University.
