An Intersectional Approach to Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health

Event ended

The City of Rochester's SOAR program sponsored by the Office of Adolescent Health presents

An Intersectional Approach to Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health

This session will explore how awareness of intersectionality can affect sexual and reproductive health care for teens. Intersectionality recognizes that identity is multidimensional and that aspects of a person’s identity are interconnected rather than independent of each other. How might a person’s age, racial identity, sexuality, or gender expression affect the care they receive? Might these effects be amplified if a person falls into categories of multiple minority identities? Through participation in this session, participants will be encouraged to look at the ways in which an intersectional approach can ensure better sexual and reproductive health outcomes for youth seeking care. A variety of learning techniques will be utilized to not only educate but to engage conversations and work to develop solutions.
