Olatunji _"Soca Superstar"_'s BioOlatunji is a soca artist from
Trinidad and Tobago with numerous titles to his credit including the
Groovy Monarch (2015) for his breakout hit "Ola". Born to parents
Edward Yearwood, a well -known composer and mother Mairoon Ali, a
local actress, radio personality and teacher it was evident that
Olatunji or "Ola" as he is widely known, would be a talent to be
reckoned with.
Ola's rise to prominence began in 2002 at the age of 16, when he
entered the Junior Calypso competition where he would place 2nd in the
NYAC Emancipation Competition and 2nd in the Sunshine Snacks Junior
Calypso Competition. 2003 saw continued success as he placed in every
competition he entered including 1st in the Sunshine Snack Junior
Calypso Monarch. He was also named the "Most Outstanding Calypsonian"
and "Most Promising Act".
Yearwood spent 5 years with the Roy Cape All Star and also studied the
performing arts in London. His unique style can be described as
