African Americans Right to Vote, 150th Anniversary of the 15th
Amendment allowing Black men to vote following the Civil War. The year
2020 marks the 150th anniversary of the Fifteenth Amendment (1870)
which gave the right of Black men to vote following the Civil War. It
also marks the centennial of the Nineteenth Amendment and the
culmination of the women’s suffrage movement. This year’s theme,
then, recognizes the struggle for voting rights among men and women
throughout American history. It is an ongoing struggle experienced by
people of color that continues into the 21st century.”
Our 2020 event will mark another year of our dazzling emcee Renel
Brooks-Moon. This will be our 16th year celebrating the historical and
cultural achievements of the African American communities in this
fashion. Mayor London Breed and former Mayor Willie L. Brown. Jr., are
both invited to attend. The menu will feature a delectable array of
soul food favorites. There will be an amazing program filled with
entertainment and surprises.
Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and the program will begin promptly at 12:00
noon.
