Invitation: Tackling Austin’s affordability crisis with a smart city solution for housers, renters and policy makers.

Austin has an affordability crisis. There is strong cross-sector support for a smart city application that reduces inefficiency in Austin’s affordable housing market. A single mother seeking affordable housing has little to no real-time insight into available units for her family; when low-income renters aren't able to quickly and easily determine whether affordable units are available, that can keep them from going to school, working, and contributing to Austin’s rich social, cultural and economic life.

Austin CityUP,  a smart city consortium, has conducted an extensive market review of potential solutions, business models, and the data required to serve housers, affordable housing renters, and policy makers.

Here’s your opportunity to help provide a solution for Austin. Solution providers, affordable housing stakeholders, and smart city innovators will:

-          Learn about the City of Austin’s goals to improve resources for renters

-          Evaluate national and local commercial solutions to similar challenges

-          Share assets and perspectives that can be applied to the Austin market

You must RSVP to attend.

All attendees are invited to connect and continue conversations after the event at a no-host lunch at a nearby restaurant.  Details will be provided in advance.

Parking is available in the lot behind the Neighborhood & Community Development office building. Street parking is also available at posted rates.  CapMetro routes serve this area. The nearest B-Cycle station is at East 11th and San Marcos.

Austin CityUP Housing Committee members include co-chairs Ron Baker (IBM) and Catherine Crago (HACA), Lisa Garcia (HACA), Sherri Greenberg (LBJ School), Erica Leak (City of Austin Neighborhood Housing and Community Development - NHCD), and Josh Rudow (NHCD).
