Æthelmearc Academy of the Rapier
The Academy of the Rapier in Æthelmearc will take place on April 15, 2017, in the Shire of Coppertree. The site is the John F. Kennedy Civic Arena, 500 W. Embargo St., Rome, NY, 13440. This is a spacious hockey arena with locker rooms, showers, lots of parking, and free wi-fi, all on one floor and handicap accessible. (Sorry for fans of fencing on the ice, but the ice will not be down.)

The site will open at 9 a.m., with classes beginning at 10. The site will close at 5 p.m.
Event Registration is $15; $10 for members; $5 for ages 6-14; and children age 5 and under are guests of the shire. Family registration is $40, $30 for members. Merchants are welcome at no additional charge. Please supply your own tables and chairs.
Due to city regulations, this is a dry event. No alcohol will be permitted on site. Also due to city regulations, the shire cannot provide a day board. The concession stand will be open for food sales, and you are welcome to bring your own food and drink. There are inexpensive restaurants located nearby, some of which will deliver, and we will have a food truck available in the parking lot.
Directions: Take your best route to the NYS Thruway. From points west, take exit 33 Verona/Rome/Oneida and take 365 east to South James St. Turn left onto Erie Blvd. West, then right onto N. Madison St., left onto W. Embargo St. From points east, take exit 31 Utica and take the right hand route toward Route 49 West. Once on Route 49 W., take the Routes 49, 69 W / 26 N. exit toward downtown Rome onto Erie Blvd East. Continue straight onto Erie Blvd W. Turn right onto N. Madison St., left onto W. Embargo St. The site will be on the right.

Hampton Inn, 1352 Floyd Ave.; and Wingate By Wyndham at 90 Dart Circle are also recommended. There are also a variety of hotels and dining options off Thruway Exit 33 in Verona and Exit 31 in Utica.
