Join us 11AM Saturday at the Berkeley Animal Rights Center to hear news from the week, a proposal for a monthly vegan food share for folx at People's Park and two great talks! A.j. Hill will present, "An Activist's Guide to Public Speaking" and Zach Groff will deliver, "The Strength of Strong Ties: History and DxE".

Coffee, donuts and fruit will be on hand. See you this (and every) Saturday! Please reach out if you're interested in presenting or offering a proposal!

About this week's speakers:

AJ Hill (he/them) is currently a student at the University of California, Berkeley studying political science and public policy and graduated with an Associates Degree in Communication Studies from Riverside City College. AJ has previously organized with Planned Parenthood Action Fund, the California Student Public Interest Research Group and National Model United Nations empowering students through affirmative consent, ecological protection, and good governance respectively.

Zach Groff is a social science researcher, an organizer with LGBTQ+ Animal Liberationists, and the Ling-Ann Hsiung Memorial Fellow with Direct Action Everywhere. Zach is a part-time Research Analyst at Innovations for Poverty Action, where he helps conduct randomized evaluations (the gold standard in social science) of poverty alleviation programs. Before coming to DxE, Zach participated in numerous social justice campaigns and taught in low-income neighborhoods.

Every Saturday at 11:00 AM, local animal rights supporters gather to enjoy great food and company, discuss recent events, and empower and train one another to be the best activists we can be. These meetups are open to all, whether you just learned about factory farming or are a veteran activist. If you want to be around a fun and welcoming group of animal-lovers, this is the place for you!

HOW DO I GET TO THE MEETUP? Go inside the red building at 2425 Channing Way, the same shopping center as Revolution Books. We're at one of the spaces inside!

WHAT HAPPENS AT MEETUPS? Each week is different! Expect talks, panels, trainings, potlucks, and protests!

WHY DO WE FOCUS ON COMMUNITY? Great social justice movements begin with a community, from the Quaker church to LGBT community centers. We too need a community for training, support, and encouragement.

HOW DO I GET MORE INVOLVED? There are many areas we need help with! The first way to get involved is to attend our weekly meetups, and to find a working group that suits your skills. Beyond that, reach out if you have another skill that you’d like to deploy for animals. We’ll find a way for you to put your skills to use!
