We all know that drama—the least of which was on the big screen—followed the 2008 housing market collapse. But how has post-crisis regulation affected the business of banks? In this talk, Mike Selfridge will tackle the topic of banks in a post-financial crisis world. What does it take for today’s financial analyst to understand the business of banking? What are the subtleties of earnings conference calls? And, for those eager to take their talents to Wall Street, how does one prepare for a career in banking? Mike will share insights gained along the road from USF MBA to First Republic Bank SVP and Chief Banking Officer.

Michael Selfridge

Michael D. Selfridge joined First Republic in 2012. As Chief Banking Officer, he is responsible for Northern California Private Banking, Information Technology, and nationwide Business Banking. Previously, he served as the company’s Chief Operating Officer and also as the Chief Risk Officer. Prior to joining First Republic, Mr. Selfridge was head of U.S. regional banking at Silicon Valley Bank. Mr. Selfridge held various other senior management positions with Silicon Valley Bank over an 18 year period. Prior to this, he was with HSBC and also Wells Fargo Bank. He serves on the Board of Directors of Catholic Charities of San Francisco. Mr. Selfridge earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and an MBA from University of San Francisco. He is a graduate of the Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program.
