Welcome to our entry level workshop open to anyone interested in learning the basics of capturing 3D models using 3D scanning technology. We will use the Occipital Structure Sensor 3D Scanner which is able to create quality scans of objects with varying characteristics that range in size from a few inches to several feet.
We will learn the scanner by working in a group to get scans of each participant then use a few tricks to produce printable files. We will explore how to change the mesh, taking it from a printable action figure into a chia pet style pot.
The Structure Scanner is not well adapted for scanning very small items or capturing very fine details. It shines in its ability to capture perfect proportions of an object quickly. It is especially good at capturing anatomy and organic foms. Through hands on practice we will cover common pitfalls and best practices when using the technology for a variety of applications such as scanning body parts, large objects, and shiny objects.

This workshop typically lasts one and half hours.

We provide the facilities to turn good ideas into great realities. Whether you are a student, researcher, or someone looking to learn new skills, we welcome you to join us. Participants in our workshops gain access to Inworks for the duration of the workshop.

Currently our lab and prototyping equipment are free to access and open to the Denver community in compliance with our Inworks Terms of Use and posted safety rules. Lab staff must certify your competency on specific machines before you may use them. Our workshops are designed to teach you these skills quickly.

If you’d like to work in our space regularly, please sign up for a Basic Safety and Badging session at your convenience. You do not need a badge to take workshops, but it is required to drop into the space and work during our open lab hours.

You can learn more about us at inworks.ucdenver.edu, and we’d be happy to answer any questions you have after your workshop.

Remember, all participants are required to read, sign, and adhere to the Inworks Terms of Use and all posted safety rules.
