The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration commemorates the legacy of Dr. King and allows the Oregon State community to reflect on his work in today’s context through engaging workshops, presentations and service opportunities. In its 38th year, the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration is Oregon State University’s longest running annual event focused on social justice and transformative change. Tickets are required for the Peace Breakfast.

The annual Peace Breakfast, held on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, celebrates the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. while honoring members of the Oregon State community who carry his message and work forward in the present.

The Peace Breakfast is free and open to Oregon State community members and invited guests with registration. OSU ID# required and will be checked for validity. If a non-valid ID number is used, registration will be voided. Child care is available from 9 am-12 pm for those attending the breakfast and the Keynote Lecture following.

The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Keynote Address will follow the Peace Breakfast at 11:00 a.m. in the La Sells Stewart Center. This year’s keynote speaker is Raquel Willis, activist and executive editor of Out magazine. As a Black queer transgender activist, writer and speaker, Willis is dedicated to inspiring and elevating marginalized individuals, particularly transgender women of color. She is a 2018 Jack Jones Literary Arts Sylvia Rivera Fellow and a thought leader on gender, race and intersectionality.

An Oregon State tradition, the Keynote Address will be followed by a Peace March at 12:30 p.m. from the La Sells Stewart Center to the Student Experience Center Plaza. The Peace March is an opportunity to join in solidarity with community members and reflect on Dr. King’s legacy of creating transformative change through non-violence.

This event is co-sponsored by the Oregon State University Foundation.
