Time: 9:00 am - 4:30 pm each day; on the first day of class, there will be coffee and treats from 8:30-9:00 am during registration.

 Details:  The 30-Hour Facilitative Civil Mediation Training is a comprehensive experiential training course that teaches participants to skillfully facilitate conversations between people in conflict in order to assist them in reaching creative, mutually-satisfactory outcomes. This course is designed for professionals who want to learn to mediate, and meets all requirements of both the Minnesota Supreme Court’s Rule 114 Training Guidelines and the Community Dispute Resolution Program Training Requirements for community mediators in Minnesota.  Upon completion of this certified course, participants will have the skills to mediate in a wide variety of situations and be eligible for inclusion on the Minnesota Rule 114 Qualified Neutral Civil Roster as well as be eligible to volunteer with community mediation centers throughout Minnesota.

 During the training, participants learn the mediation process, and gain the skills to identify the interests and fundamental needs that underlie the positions of people in conflict. Participants also learn to reframe positional or destructive communication into productive communication, and to understand conflict styles, become an active listener, manage impasse, and identify power imbalances. Additionally, participants learn skills to remain neutral in challenging situations, and gain an understanding of the cultural and ethical issues that may arise when mediating parties in conflict.

Participants will purchase The Mediator’s Handbook: Revised & Expanded Fourth Edition, by Jennifer E. Beer and Caroline C. Packard. There are copies available for sale at Conflict Resolution Center and can be purchased on the first day of class. It is also available through on-line bookstores.  The class is $800.00.
