2nd Saturday Philly Art Walk: West Philly/ University City

Welcome to Streets Dept's 2nd Saturday Philly Art Walk! These walks are a new kind of guided tour that explore the art around Philadelphia's public spaces one neighborhood at a time. Each month we walk a different part of the city in search of street art, murals, independent galleries, exciting exhibitions – and more! Each tour is hosted and led by StreetsDept.com's founder Conrad Benner.

NOVEMBER'S TOUR:

So excited to end our 2019 tours season with a walk through one of the most requested neighborhoods yet. The artwork, namely murals, that we'll see throughout this tour of sections of West Philly and University City are ones that I've never offered a tour of before. And many are artworks I've never even blogged about in the nearly nine years of running Streets Dept. This is an incredible stretch of public art that I think will become a staple on future year's tours.

I'm your host for this and every 2nd Saturday Philly Art Walk. My name's Conrad Benner, and I'm a Fishtown-born and raised photographer, podcaster, curator, and the founder of StreetsDept.com, an award winning photo-blog that's been discovering art on streets of Philadelphia since 2011. Over the years, I have been named Philly's ‘Best Art Curator’ by Philadelphia Magazine, and my blog named one of the ‘Best Blogs for Travellers’ by The Guardian. I have a passion for art in the public space and the role it plays in our hearts and minds; in fact, you can read my blog's full purpose statement here!

QUICK NOTES: 

1) November's tour will start at 36th and Chestnut streets and end within a 20 minute walk of this location. 2) Tours include roughly two hours of walking, which may not be suitable for all. Please feel free to email me at StreetsDept [at] gmail [dot] com, if you have any questions. 3) Tours are rain or shine, so be sure to dress accordingly. 4) Lastly, tours are ticketed and tickets/names will be checked at the start of each tour; you can bring a digital or printed copy of your ticket, or just check-in with the ticket purchaser's name!
