This year we are Co-Chairing the 2017 Career and Recovery Resources, Inc. Barrier Breaker Luncheon on Tuesday, June 27th at the Hyatt Regency in Downtown Houston. Career and Recovery Resources, Inc. (CRR) is a nonprofit multi-service United Way agency whose mission is to help individuals identify and overcome barriers to employment. CRR served more than 13,000 individuals in 2016. The organization has had a long history of improving people’s lives in our community- it was initially established in 1945 by B’nai B’rith as the Jewish Vocational Guidance Services.

Lainie and I are huge supporters and are delighted to serve as Co-Chairs of the 21st Annual 2017 Barrier Breaker Award Luncheon Host Committee. We are asking you to join us in supporting this outstanding organization.

This year the honorees for the luncheon will be Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and former Harris County Judge Robert Eckels.

Mayor Sylvester Turner serves as Houston’s 62nd Mayor. Prior to his election as Mayor, he served a distinguished 25+ year’s in the Texas House of Representatives.  Sylvester Turner graduated from the University of  Houston and Harvard Law School before joining the law firm of  Fulbright & Jaworski. He later founded the Houston law firm of Barnes & Turner in 1983.  In 1988 he was elected to the Texas House of Representatives to serve the people of House District 139 in Northwest Houston.

Former County Judge Robert Eckels’ legal practice at Gray Reed & McGraw, LLP is built on a decades- long career in public service and leadership. He was the founding chairman of the Texas High Speed Rail and Transportation Corp and in 2010, he accepted a position as President of Texas Central Railway, LL; a private enterprise seeking to build a high-speed rail system linking Houston with Dallas/Fort worth. He is a graduate of the University of Houston and South Texas Collage of Law.

Most important, this Luncheon will recognize STAR clients who, with the help of Career and Recovery Resources, have overcome barriers to employment and are now leading productive lives and contributing to the well-being of our community. We are supporting CRR because of the positive difference it makes in the lives of its clients.

Your support is vital to the future of Career and Recovery Resources, Inc. We have enclosed an Underwriting and Sponsorship Form for your review. If you have any questions, please call us or Vern Swisher, Chief Executive Officer at (713) 754-7082.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Lainie Gordon and David Mincberg
