Edgwick Farm opens its doors every winter to provide a unique educational experience to it's farmer's market customers as well as to families new to the farm to see where their food comes from.  Meet our  hard working dairy goats and cuddle their newborn babies early in the tour season.  Later in the tour season, play with the growing baby goats in the exercise yard.   After touring the farm, meet the cheesemakers, observe the cheesemaking through a viewing window and taste the milk and cheese these wonderful animals help produce.

FAQs

How long does the farm tour last? What can we expect?

Tours are typically about an hour long and include an educational tour guided by our herd manager and personal contact with our milking goats and an opportunity for each family to visit the baby goat pen and cuddle the babies.  After visiting with the animals, there is a bathroom to wash hands.  Then the cheesemakers will taste goat milk and goat cheeses in the viewing room where you can look through a big window to see cheese being made.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

Look for the farm tour sign at end of the driveway at 348 Angola Road. Please enter the driveway, past the farm house and proceed up the small back driveway to the red building which is our creamery and microdairy and park in the small parking area to the left of it.

How should we dress?

Although, there is very limited walking on the tour and most of the tour occurs inside semi-heated buildings, you should dress for cold outdoor weather in clothes you don't mind getting dirty.  Consider wearing boots (no open toes shoes) and maybe bring a plastic bags to stash dirty boots at the end of the tour.  This is a farm experience, you will get dirty and your boots will get messy.  Goats like to nibble on dangling and shiny items so avoid long earrings and jewelry.

What can't I bring on the tour?

Please do not bring dogs to the farm tour.  They will frighten our farm animals.  We do not recommend strollers because they cannot enter the hoop house where the goats are kept (they get stuck in the bedding and intrigue the goats).  Additionally, no food or drink is permitted in the hoop house as well as pacifiers to prevent hand to mouth contamination.

What does the tour cost? Do you charge for young children?

The farm tours cost $12 per person.  (This covers our out of pocket costs.)  Children under 2 years old are able to attend at no charge by reserving a free under 2 years old ticket. However, each child four and under must be accompanied by an adult to assure there is reasonable supervision during animal contact.  Additionally we do not recommend babies under 10 weeks attend tour due to immature immune systems.

Why do you limit tours to 15 attendees?

We are a working farm, milking twice a day, 7 days a week and making cheese daily as well.  The tours are scheduled around our daily work and are deliberately small so as to fit in our spaces and not over stress the animals or our land.

We buy your milk and cheese and eggs at the farmer's markets.  Can we buy some at the end of the tour to bring home? Can we come to your farm after the tour to buy products?

Yes.  Milk and cheese and eggs will be available for purchase at the end of the tour.  Consider a cooler in your vehicle if the weather is warm.  We do not maintain a store on the farm -- you can purchase our products from us after the tour at farmer's markets.

Will we get to feed the baby goats on the tour?

No.  We take great care to feed our baby goats on a strict schedule and moniter how much they eat and how they are doing as well as train them for future milking.

Will we get to milk the goats or see the goats being milked?

No.  Although we milk every day, twice a day, we milk very early in the morning and at the very end of the day.

Can we explore the farm without attending a tour?

No.  Our farm is a working farm and closed to the public except for these special guided winter tours.

Can we picnic on the farm before or after the tour?

Sorry but we do not have picnicing opportunities on our farm.  However, there are picnicing opportunities in our community.
