LEADERSHIP FOR NEW GLOBAL DIRECTORS

The opportunities and challenges of leading a global program are many and varied–from mentoring faculty to communicating with multiple different school stakeholders–and in our current landscape the ability to articulate the objectives of a global education program is of paramount importance. The GEBG Leadership for New Global Directors program offers new global directors–or administrative leaders– practical advice and insights into leveraging your institution’s resources to build a high-quality and comprehensive global program. Participants will engage in asynchronous online learning in addition to a full-day synchronous online workshop that will utilize various forms of interactive experiences to explore model practices, to develop a cohort of peer leaders, and to reflect on the current status of your school’s program. In addition, participants will continue their development through two individual coaching sessions, guided by the goals and objectives that you develop throughout the course. All new global education program directors (with 1-5 years of experience in the position) who are interested in building their leadership acumen, understanding model practices in global programs, and furthering their collaborative work with internal and external school colleagues should plan to attend.

DATES: Week of July 6

GLOBAL PROGRAM LEADERSHIP IN A CHANGING WORLD

While the world that we are living in has changed in some drastic and dramatic ways, the imperative of global education has never been more clear. All the while, the demands on leadership of global programming in schools has evolved, and there is an increasing imperative to educate community members about the goals and objectives of your program, which may be changing by the day. This program, designed for experienced global program directors, will utilize a full day of synchronous online learning that is supported by asynchronous coursework and two virtual meet-ups to explore model practices in leadership of multifaceted, comprehensive, and evolving global education programs. Whether you are looking to create new programming, to reorganize existing offerings under a new system, or to generate better and deeper understanding for new or evolving curriculum outcomes; having the tools to effectively guide your stakeholders through growth and change can make all the difference. Join other global education leaders to plan for what’s next at your school with the right tools, mindset, and support-network to set you up for success.

Additionally, participants will be provided with model practices in curriculum development and pedagogy to facilitate personal professional growth and to assist in guiding any further work within the curriculum team or overall school community. This program has been designed for teachers of any middle-school discipline; additionally, schools have reported seeing greater impact when sending teams of 2-4 faculty members to this workshop.

UNDERSTANDING CHINA TODAY

Even before the Coronavirus put Wuhan “on the map,” China’s rapid evolution as a country was of great interest to the rest of the world, especially the U.S., Canada, and sub-saharan Africa. Many of our schools have strong connections to China through enrolling Chinese students; through curriculum in global issues, economics, world history, and Mandarin language; and through student travel programs to China. But how up to date is our understanding of China–not only in terms of our understanding of this pandemic, but also with regard to the country’s rapid growth and influence within our global community? In partnership with numerous organizations including Stanford University, we will provide an intensive online learning experience that will utilize both synchronous and asynchronous learning opportunities to hear from experts in the field and to explore the current political, cultural, and economic landscape of China. The utility and direct applicability of your learning will be beyond evident!

FORMAT:  Online Asynchronous Course with Two Synchronous Sessions
DATES:  July 13-31, 2020
COST: $400 member schools, $450 non-member school attendees.
AUDIENCE:  Teachers of China (history/literature/global issues/economics); school leaders

CUSTOM COACHING IN GLOBAL PROGRAM LEADERSHIP OR CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT

Many GEBG Schools have noted the opportunity presented by COVID-19 to strengthen their global education programs. As a result of this reality as well as member requests, we have been facilitating individualized coaching in program leadership as well as curriculum development, for both individuals within your school community as well as small teams of administrators or curriculum developers. Participants will engage in a series of three synchronous sessions that are scaffolded within a broader series of benchmarks based on the participant’s goals and objectives. All participants will leave this opportunity with a greater sense of their own capacity as leaders of global education in their schools as well as an individualized action plan that will continue far beyond the program itself. Schools may also elect to use parts of the GEBG Global Education Standards to guide this custom coaching.

FORMAT:  Three Sessions of Action-Oriented Individual Coaching: Facilitated goal-setting, progress tracking, and reflection; written, co-developed action plan
DATES:  Determined by participants
COST: $350 member schools only
AUDIENCE:  Global Directors, Curriculum Developers, Teaching Teams
