2020 Acupuncture Association of Colorado (AAC) Conference is organized by Acupuncture Association of Colorado (AAC) and will be held from Apr 18 - 19, 2020 at Denver Marriott Westminster, Westminster, Colorado, United States of America. This Conference has been approved for a maximum of 14 NCCAOM and CA CEU’S (CURRENTLY PENDING).

Course Category One- (AOM)- 10 hours
Course Category Two- Safety (SA)- 2 hours
Course Category Three- Ethics (ET)- 2 hours

Description:
In the highly-regulated, highly-competitive field of health care, an ethical misconduct complaint, safety violation/citation or lawsuit is not always a result of a practitioner's intentionally bad behavior or lapse of judgment. Experienced, diligent Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (AOM) practitioners can find themselves facing the prospect of damaging professional disciplinary actions, safety violations and/or litigation simply because they failed to receive proper training and utilize effective risk management strategies to maintain a lawful, ethical and safe practice.

This program will begin with a detailed overview of the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) Code of Ethics, Grounds for Professional Discipline and Procedures for Upholding Professional Conduct. From there, analysis will be conducted of the relevant state codes, laws and regulations impacting an AOM practice. Attendees will learn about common ethical, safety and legal pitfalls from real cases throughout the country and effective risk management, safety and problem prevention strategies from an expert attorney with decades of experience in the field of AOM.

Goals and objectives:
• The role of Chinese medicine in the management and mitigation of side effects of cancer and its treatment
• The role of Chinese medicine in identifying and addressing a wide range of chronic and late effects
• Quickening the body’s recovery after treatment
• Promoting and maintaining a healthy immune system while on-therapy
• Understanding cancer recurrence and strategies for cancer prevention

Participants will learn about the current biomedical treatment interventions for the most common cancers. Strategies for how to develop a treatment plan, including understanding the cancer patient’s treatment roadmap will be presented. Participants will learn cautions and contraindications for a variety of Chinese medicine treatment interventions, including in the setting of special clinical circumstances. Methods of treatment to manage and mitigate acute and long-term side effects of cancer and its treatment will be covered. Participants will learn how to effectively communicate with a patient’s medical team about AOM care.

Since cancer survivors have unique medical needs, participants will be introduced to a wide range of content related to effectively treating survivors of diverse cancers. Strategies for treatment interventions during the time of transitioning off-therapy and into long-term survival will be covered. Participants will learn about the challenges cancer survivors face and the role we can play as a member of their healthcare team.
