2019 San Francisco Education Fair
The 2019 San Francisco Education Fair will provide an opportunity for students and parents to educate themselves about their private education options in San Francisco. Students and families will also have access to leading authorities and practitioners in areas related to the college admission and enrollment process.
Engage with top-rated private and independent K-12 schools to meet face-to-face with the school admission officials.
Our Educational Fair is open to families with children from all grade levels, from preschool to high school. The Education Fair is designed to reach out to these prospective students and their families and show them their options for elementary schools, secondary schools, and private colleges. To ensure accessibility to families with young children, we will provide a play place with a jumper slide (bounce house) for children 12 and under to play in.
The event will feature keynote seminars from leading educational experts and college admissions officers from top universities. These seminars will help families understand more about the differences between private schools and their other options. Attendees will learn more about the realities of the college admissions process today, and how to best prepare their children for college in each stage of their lives.
We will also offer workshops to parents on issues that include bullying prevention, adolescent development, and healthy technology use for children. Workshops will be available to middle and high school students as well, and will include the following topics: applying for financial aid and scholarships, and building a strong portfolio for college admission.

Keynote Speakers:
Kris Kim, Ph.D
Dr. Kim, has studied at some of the world’s leading institutions. With a Masters in Education from Stanford University, and Ph.D in School Finance from UCLA, Dr. Kim is an active member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA), as well as the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC). She has extensive experience counseling thousands of high school students over ten years. Her passion for guiding students and her academic emphasis on improving school performances have given Dr. Kim a unique vantage point to approach the path to college and beyond. As a former OVAL member at Stanford Admission representing Stanford for prospective students, Kris has an unprecedented knowledge of what it takes for students to be successful in their college journey.
Jean Marie Buckley, M.Ed, MPA, PPS (CA)
Jean Marie Buckley, M.Ed, MPA, PPS (CA) is internationally recognized as the expert in school admissions at all levels in the education landscape. Designated as a professional member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA) and also as a Certified Educational Planner with the American Institute of Certified Educational Planners (AICEP), Jean Marie is sought out to speak on topics related on admissions, education, parenting and understanding the complex landscape of admissions. As the San Francisco Bay Area has evolved over recent decades, Jean Marie, as a professional and 4th generation San Franciscan, understands the trends and causes of admission practices.
Jean Marie Buckley has worked as a school leader, school counselor and UC Berkeley admission representative for over three decades. Her firm, Buckley Education provides guidance to students and their families as the only certified organization to do so in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area.
Parenting Workshops:
Helping Your Child Cope with Anxiety
During this workshop, we will address strategies to help your child cope and manage his or her feelings and identify and discuss common anxiety triggers, such as school situations, social dynamics, sleep, and separation issues.
Mimi Ezray, LCSW, MPH
Mimi is the clinical director at Parents Place in San Mateo. Mimi has worked with children, teens, and families in schools and clinical settings for over 30 years. Her areas of specialization include working with children and families on challenges such as anxiety, anger, depression, social skills, coping with difficult life transitions, and post adoption issues. In addition, she has done multiple presentations and led groups in school and community settings on a variety of topics such as, “Anxiety and Your Child,” “Developmental Red Flags,” and “Friendship Issues for Girls.” Mimi has overseen our Children’s Clinical Program on the Peninsula since 2012. She has a dual Master’s degree in Social Work and Public Health from University of California, Berkeley.

Making Sense of Sensation
This workshop will help parents to support their child's sensory development and recognize when there may be issues in the sensory system. This brief presentation will explain the role of sensory processing in nervous system development, supporting the child's sensory motor development, and recognizing when there may be a problem.
Jennifer Phillips, MS, OTR/L
Jenn works as an OT in our San Francisco and San Rafael Parents Place offices. She is a board-certified registered occupational therapist. She received her graduate degree from Texas Woman’s University and her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Jenn draws from over ten years of experience of providing children with occupational therapy in the Bay Area in a wide variety of settings, including preschools, outpatient clinics, public schools, and a non-public school for children on the Autism Spectrum. She specializes in working with sensory processing challenges, developmental delays, learning differences, and neurodevelopmental differences. Jenn is passionate about her work and is motivated to help children of all ages experience playfulness and joy while developing new skills, cultivating self-confidence, and connecting to others.

Consequential Parenting
We live in a consequential world. Learn about the intended and unintended consequences in disciplining your children. Develop strategies to provide consequences that teach rather than punish. This discussion will include positive communication, setting appropriate limits, providing logical consequences that teach rather than punish, and building healthy self-esteem for our children. Parents will have an opportunity to reflect on their own individual parenting styles and build parenting skills while developing strategies that support their children as well as themselves.
Wendy Poore
Wendy has been a parent/child educator for over 30 years and currently works in our San Francisco office. She has spent her professional career working as a classroom teacher from pre-school through 5th grade and working as a parent educator in the evenings. In addition, she has facilitated many “mommy and me” programs. Wendy is passionate about empowering adults to find their own unique voices as parents. As an educator, her goal is to help children learn respect and boundaries, and build confidence and resilience from both positive and negative natural consequences. Wendy is a mother of two adult children and a grandparent to several beautiful children. She has traversed the many stages of child rearing, and the joyful journey continues.
