Dance Wise for Parkinson’s classes inspire joy, hope and a confident body through dance. The program brings people with Parkinson’s, their care partners, spouses, family and friends together for an hour of dance which is not only a dynamic and enjoyable way to exercise, it is a powerful form of self-expression. Artistic Director and primary teaching artist Elena Diehl introduces movement from modern and theater dance, ballet, folk dance, tap, improvisation, and choreographic repertory in a safe, enjoyable and creative environment. The emphasis in every Dance Wise for Parkinson’s class is to engage the participants' minds and bodies through novel creative dance explorations and to dance for the sake of gracefulness and enjoyment. Participants’ artistic expression is nurtured through an enjoyable, empowering approach and students learn to enhance their aesthetic awareness and grace while addressing PD-specific concerns such as balance, flexibility, coordination, gait, social isolation, and depression.
