Illinois Bone and Joint Institute presents the Fall, 2019 Educational Meeting and Seminar.

This course is hosted by Illinois Bone and Joint Institute physicians, surgeons, and rehabilitation and sports performance professionals. The symposium topics will include: general sports medicine, injury prevention, medical management of hip, knee, spine, and shoulder disorders, sports neurology, and upper and lower extremity biomechanics and rehabilitation. In addition, there will be special topic presentations on incorporating dry needling, blood flow restriction, nutrition, and performance training as part of a collaborative care health model. Participants including sports medicine physicians, physician assistants, physical therapists, nurses, athletic trainers and coaches will be able to adopt practical strategies for improved interventions and optimal patient care and outcomes after attending this course.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this educational activity, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss available treatment interventions and current evidence-based outcomes regarding the use of biologics in orthopedic healthcare.
  • Explain the etiology, differential diagnosis, and medical treatment principles of common spine disorders in the athletic population.
  • Identify relevant clinical rehab diagnoses and rationale for the use of dry needling and blood flow restriction treatment interventions and educate potential patients or colleagues on evidence-based outcomes.
  • Refine current concussion management practices, challenging conventional principles of rest versus active recovery, rehab progression, and return to sport.
  • Understand the importance the pelvic floor plays in core stability in the athletic population and know when to appropriately refer to a pelvic floor specialist.
  • Critically appraise the current evidence, outcomes, and return to sport criteria after ACL reconstruction.
  • Correctly identify hip pathology early and refer appropriately for various hip preservation strategies to improve long-term outcomes and recovery.
  • Explain the surgical procedure performed during a UCL reconstruction and the medical and rehabilitative implications for recovery.
  • Understand the complexity of athletic nutrition based on energy system demands and performance goals.

Cost of Symposium: $125.00

Registration: Online Registration is available to the first 100 registrants until October 18th, 2019.

Cancellation Policy: The full symposium fee is refundable, less a $25.00 processing fee if your cancellation is received by October 18th, 2019. Refunds will not be granted after this time or for non-attendance.

CEU Information

Physical Therapists, Physical Therapy Assistants: Illinois Bone and Joint Institute, LLC is an Approved Continuing Education Sponsor (#216.000150) by the IDFPR. Participants will receive .85 CEUs.

Athletic Trainers: Illinois Bone and Joint Institute, LLC (BOC AP #186.000109) is approved by the Board of Certification, Inc. to provide continuing education to Certified Athletic Trainers. This program is eligible for a maximum of 8.5 of Category A hours/CEU’s. AT’s should only claim those hours actually spent in the educational program.
