Don't miss out on this fantastic two-day conference for therapists presented by the Illinois Association for Play Therapy. Register today!  DAY ONE March 22, 2018: Creative Family Play Therapy Techniques The use of creative, play-based techniques in family therapy provides a medium for all members to participate in sessions and facilitates family relatedness. Through this dynamic workshop, participants will learn a number of innovative play therapy techniques to engage, assess, and treat families. This will include art, games, puppets, and stories. The advantages of using play therapy with families will be outlined, and tips for overcoming challenges will be discussed. This training will combine PowerPoint presentation, activity demonstrations, videos of client sessions, and experiential exercises. Learning Objectives: List three benefits of using play therapy techniques in family sessions. Describe two common challenges in family therapy and identify strategies to overcome these challenges. Describe a play therapy intervention that can be used to assess families. Describe at least 2 therapeutic games that can be used in family sessions. Describe at least 2 art techniques that can be used in family sessions.   Describe a technique that can be used to strengthen parenting skills. DAY TWO March 23, 2018: Creative Play Therapy Interventions for Children and Families Coping with Loss When children enter play therapy because they have experienced a significant loss, they are at a very vulnerable time in their lives. They are often anxious about the therapeutic process and reluctant to talk directly about painful feelings. Activities that are creative and play-based can engage children and help them to express their thoughts and feelings.  This workshop will present a brief theoretical overview followed by a variety of play therapy interventions to assess and treat children and families coping with loss. A range of innovative activities will be outlined, including therapeutic games, art, and stories. Although the focus of this workshop will be on bereavement and divorce, many of the interventions can be adapted for other treatment populations. Learning Objectives:  Define grief, traumatic grief, and disenfranchised grief. Identify common risk factors associated with children coping with bereavement and divorce. Describe the unique treatment issues of children in play therapy who are coping with suicide and homicide bereavement. Describe the continuum of parent-child relationships after separation and divorce. Implement at least 2 play therapy techniques to assess children and families coping with loss.  Apply at least 5 play therapy interventions in sessions with children and families coping with loss. ABOUT OUR PRESENTER: Liana Lowenstein is a Registered Clinical Social Worker, Certified Play Therapist-Supervisor, and Certified TF-CBT Therapist who has been working with children and their families since 1988. She presents training across North America and abroad. She provides clinical supervision to mental health practitioners, runs a play-therapy internship program, and consults to several mental health agencies. She has authored numerous books, including Paper Dolls and Paper Airplanes: Therapeutic Exercises for Sexually Traumatized Children; Creative Interventions for Bereaved Children; Creative Interventions for Children of Divorce; Cory Helps Kids Cope with Divorce; and Creative CBT Interventions for Children with Anxiety. She is the winner of the Monica Herbert award for outstanding contribution to play therapy in Canada.   FAQs   What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
